Charge surprises chiropractor
Indictment says he practiced medicine without a license
By Gary L. Smith
LACON — A Peoria-area chiropractor who lost his license nearly three years ago expressed surprise Thursday when told he is facing a criminal charge in Marshall County for allegedly practicing without that certification.
Jeffrey A. Luhring of Metamora was indicted by a grand jury recently on a single count of practicing medicine without a license, punishable by up to three years in prison.
Luhring, 52, violated the law by providing "chiropractic adjustments on Roy Sidler and Connie Sidler" of rural Lacon last February, according to the bill of indictment filed in court. A judge authorized a $25,000 arrest warrant, but it might not have been processed yet, said Marshall County State's Attorney Paul Bauer.
Luhring, who returned a Journal Star call to his home, acknowledged he had lost his license through what he called "inadvertent non-renewal" and that he had treated the Sidlers. But he said he had refunded their payments, and he maintained no one had given him any indication criminal proceedings were at stake.
