Logan College of Chiropractic Adds ACOM's RAPID EMR Software to Program; Seeks to Build Student Awareness of EMR Options and Opportunities

Chesterfield, Missouri, May 12, 2008 -- In an effort to assist graduating chiropractors to make informed decisions about automating their daily notes and reporting activities once they enter practice, Logan College of Chiropractic has instituted a requirement under which eighth trimester students must perform hands-on exercises using automated chiropractic software. ACOM's RAPID EMR chiropractic notes and reporting solution is one of two software systems currently being used to fulfill the requirement.

According to Dr. Glenn Bub, D.C., chief of staff of Logan's Health Centers, the objective of the program is to provide chiropractic students with awareness of how such programs work and at the same time, give them experience in using the systems.

"Today's students are technology-savvy as well as aware of the emerging requirements for electronic medical records," Dr. Bub said. "In this facet of our program, we strive to make them aware of the kinds of software systems that are available, how they work and how they fit into practice operations. We want our new doctors to be informed when they have to make technology buying decisions."

The program employs USB drives that are preloaded with electronic medical records software. Students check out the drives from the college resource center and are provided with a worksheet template and patient file to use in simulating a course of treatment. Inserting the drives into their computers, they enter patient data into the software, following the patient through the initial visit and conventional SOAP procedure and through subsequent visits with evaluations and interim and final reports. The students print out the results and return the drive to the resource center, which erases the data and restores the software to its blank condition for the next user.

"We evaluated a number of solutions and we found ACOM's RAPID EMR to be among the easiest to use," Dr. Bub said. "Moreover, it allows doctors to do more than simply point-and-click, but actually to expand their notes with personalized input, much as they would do when dictating. Those of us who are used to dictating patient encounters find this to be an excellent feature that we have not found in other solutions."

ACOM's Healthcare Business Division made RAPID EMR easy for the college to obtain, Dr. Bub added.

"We are delighted whenever we have an opportunity to play a part in chiropractic education," said Gregg Church, vice president of the ACOM Solutions, Inc. Healthcare Business Division.

"The pressure is on from government and other third party payers for chiropractors and other healthcare professionals to adopt electronic medical records so it is important for students to know and understand their options. RAPID EMR presents an advanced way to comply with the new requirements as well as to introduce significant efficiencies and cost savings in support of practice growth and success."
